More on Japan
Wow, Japan has finally caught onto the idea of business casual, sort of. Under the 'bizcool' rubric, office workers can wear short sleeves and spurn neckties and other formal wear...but the trade-off is that government buildings are set at 28 degreees C, which is pretty darn hot in F.

Visiting various US military bases with Korean reporters so they can see what US Forces Japan are like, give them broader context for US Forces Korea.

Back home, it's the first day of school as C.#1 enters 11th grade and C#2 enters 2nd.

Oodles of noodles

Been back from DC for five days, jet lag not too bad because I took Melatonin, helps balance your sleep cycle.

In DC
Am back in DC again, fully involved in medical appointments for the whole family. Can't believe how much pediatric dentists charge; I know one who is well on his way to being able to buy a Rolex just on our account.
Buyer's market
After last year's frenzy, it is truly a buyer's market this summer for real estate in the DC area.
Wayne
Calista had a classmate during the last school year named Wayne who regularly smeared his boogers all over the classroom. We dearly hope Wayne will have moved on to another school this fall.
Political ADD
Joe Lieberman's defeat at the hands of novie businessperson Ned Lamont in the Connecticut Democratic primary election reflects disapointment over the former VP candidate's support for the war in Iraq, of course, but it reminds me of a fear I had right after 9/11, when POTUS was saying that the GWOT would take years: do we really have patience for a war that lasts that long, especially in a 24-hour TV news cycle. Is it possible for any democracy? And how many bad guys realize this?
Life Without a Green Pteradachtyl
Pee Wee's Playhouse runs on Cartoon Network in the US at midnights. Great seeing Ptery the Pteradachtyl, Curtis the Cowboy, Chair-y, Globe-y and the others for the frist time in over a decade. I understand all five seasons are also available on DVD. The only kids' shows that come close to rivaling it are the cartoon version of the Tick and the Adventures of Pete and Pete.

The weather here has been fabulous...low 80s and breezy out near Palm Springs yesteday, almost cold at Universal Studios today, refreshing and nearly New England-ish at Claremont a couple of days ago.
